Letter from Zach & Sharon
July 31, 2010
Dear Friends and Family:
Six months after being evacuated following the January 12 earthquake, our entire family is once again living in Haiti. We give thanks to God for allowing our family to have a home to return to! Our return trip went relatively well despite the intimidating task of surviving the sublimely chaotic temporary arrival terminal in the Port-au-Prince International Airport (the main terminal was heavily damaged by the quake). Imagine the passengers of three large commercial flights jockeying for positions to retrieve luggage and pass through customs and immigration in a hot, humid building the size of a small school gymnasium. Now imagine doing that with four children, twelve checked bags, a stroller, etc. On our way to the waiting cars, we barely avoided a torrential downpour (though we did nearly get our car stuck in the flooded road on the way home). By God’s grace and strength, so many things are possible. Thanks for your prayers!
Please join us in praying for:
-A
successful transition for Sharon and kids who have been in Michigan for the last
six months.
-The Christian Reformed Church of Haiti annual General Assembly next week. Pray
for a spirit of peace and wisdom for all the delegates.
-For a successful training seminar August 10-14. Eastern Mennonite University
will be presenting the Strategies for Trauma Awareness and Resilience
(STAR) program to assist Christian leaders provide spiritual and emotional
support for earthquake survivors. We will be assessing the program for possible
use in our ministry.
Please join us in giving thanks for:
-Our
family’s return to Haiti.
-Our children’s positive attitude about returning to the Haiti. They seem to be
comfortable and happy in our home despite last January’s horrifying experience.
Thanks for your prayers and support,
Zach,
Sharon, Hannah, Isaiah, Vivian and Esther Segaar-King
