Ø  Do you have a post high school age member at college, in the military or no longer at home? The Friendship Team would like to maintain contact with them. Ø  GEMS will be participating in the Hand 'n Hand Fundraiser starting mid October.  They will be selling gourmet soup mixes, cookie dough, and Auntie Anne's Pretzel Kits, which will come with a FREE handmade potholder or ornament made by African women.  These items make great Christmas gifts, especially paired with our GEMS Cookbook (available for $10 through Lonna Driesenga at mdriesenga@allcom.net).  Our GEMS club will donate 100% of our profits to the GEMS ministry in Africa.  For additional information visit www.gemsgc.org and follow the links to 'Call to Africa' or 'Hand 'n Hand Fundraiser'.  Look for additional information regarding order placement soon.

Ø  Are you looking for a place to help out at church? We are looking for someone that would be interested in being the Nursery Coordinator to help schedule people for nursery. Please contact either pat in the office or Jen Konyndyk (895-4884).

Ø  Snowplowing bids are now being accepted for the ‘09-‘10 plowing season. Please pick up a form from the church office and return it to Ron Borst by Oct. 13. Questions? Call Ron at 895-5220.

Ø  Grocery Showers: The container to put groceries in for Lindsey Batts and Adam Van Lente will be in the lobby through next week Sunday. Other containers for Stacie Jeurink and Mike Veldhoff and also for Jesse Ondersma and Brooke Buikema will be there for two Sundays beginning next week. Please support these couples in their upcoming marriages.

Ø  Cookies are needed for after the Campus Ministries church service at GVSU on Oct. 18. Just as we enjoy cookies after our service, so do the students. If you would be willing to bake some, please call Mary Espinoza at 895-5251, AND, looking ahead – the GVSU potluck is Oct. 25. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet the students who are your brothers and sisters in Christ.

Requested Announcements

Ø  ESL (English as a Second Language) meets on Tuesday evenings from 7 – 8:30 pm at the Allendale Community Church/Center on 64^th Ave., just south of the Christian school. There are currently 25 students and 11 tutors (but four tutors will be leaving in a few weeks). The goal is to have one student per tutor. There is no need to speak Spanish – it is preferred if you don’t! It is a fun and rewarding time of service. Please pray for us and join us if you can, either as a tutor or as a child helper.

Ø  Allendale Christian School events: Their Pumpkin Patch will be open every Fri. (4 pm-dusk) and Sat. (9 am-3 pm) during Oct. It is located at 5693 Lake Mich. Dr., just west of 56^thAve. Look for the sign!  A variety of pumpkins are available in every size -- orange or white and gourds, too!  Come ready to pick!  100% of the proceeds benefit the school. Looking for some unique items? Ready for some family fun? Join us at the Auction on Sat., Oct. 17 at the school. Fun begins at 4pm with a Pig Roast, Hot Dogs and Silent Auction. At 6pm the kids can take in a movie or play a game as the verbal auction gets underway. To get in on the action early or to get more information, go to www.allendalechristian.com and check out the online auction. Then, come out and join the fun on Oct. 17 at 4 pm.

Ø  Two of Allendale High School’s choir will join with Calvin College’s Gospel Choir on Oct. 12 in a Benefit Concert at 7 pm in the high school Fine Arts Center to raise funds to build a well in Africa with the help of World Hope. Suggested donation at the door: $3. Come, help bring clean drinking water to those who have none.

Ø  Lamont Christian School will host a Chicken BBQ on Sat., Oct. 10 from 5-7 pm at the school. Cost: by donation. Questions? Call 677-9962. To order homemade pig in the blankets through the school, call their office at 677-1757 by Oct. 13.
