Ø Today is Faith Promise Sunday. Mr. Wayne Squires from Volunteers In Service will be preaching this morning. Join the Missions Committee at a potluck lunch today at noon. Please bring a dish to share that will feed 8-10 people. See you then!
Ø God’s faithfulness will be celebrated in the sacrament of infant baptism during the morning service with the baptism of Kilyan Joseph, son of Brent & Allison Miedema.
Ø Children’s Worship classes will be combined this morning and will meet in the 5&6 yr. old room.
Ø Church School for 9th – 12th graders begins today. While Rachael Veldman Windemuller is away, Arlyn Smits will meet with you from 11:00 – noon in room 123. Please take along any sermon notes you may have taken this morning.
Ø A big thanks to all those who made the first Connections night a huge success! The meal was great and it sounds like all the groups had fun and learned stuff afterward! The biggest thanks goes to our awesome God who knew who would come through those doors and used our leaders, facilitators, cooks and helpers as vessels of His love. Praise God! If you missed it, come on Oct. 7. Programs for ages 3 years old to 12th grade start at 6:15, while adult activities start at 6:30 and end at 7:45. We’d love to offer nursery, but no one has stepped forward to take that on. If you feel the Lord nudging you to help in this manner, please call Sarah at 901-7677 or email her at sgemmen@charter.net.
Ø GEMS will be participating in the Hand 'n Hand Fundraiser starting mid October. They will be selling gourmet soup mixes, cookie dough, and Auntie Anne's Pretzel Kits, which will come with a FREE handmade potholder or ornament made by African women. These items make great Christmas gifts, especially paired with our GEMS Cookbook (available for $10 through Lonna Driesenga at mdriesenga@allcom.net). Our GEMS club will donate 100% of our profits to the GEMS ministry in Africa. For additional information visit www.gemsgc.org and follow the links to 'Call to Africa' or 'Hand 'n Hand Fundraiser'. Ø A Community Choir is forming to perform the cantata "Comfort and Joy" in December. Tentative dates: Dec. 4 & 6. Rehearsals: Sundays in our church from 3-4 pm starting TODAY. Consider this wonderful opportunity to ask friends and neighbors to participate.
Ø Do you have a post high school age member at college, in the military or no longer at home? The Friendship Team would like to maintain contact with them. Please share their names and addresses before Oct. 11 by putting the information into THE BOX on the Information Desk. Thank you for your assistance.
Ø Prime Timers will have their first Bible Study meeting this Tues., the 29th, in the triple room at church at 1:00pm.
Ø Cookies are needed for after the Campus Ministries church service at GVSU on Oct. 4 and Oct. 18. Just as we enjoy cookies after our service, so do the students. If you would be willing to bake some, please call Mary Espinoza at 895-5251, AND, looking ahead – the GVSU potluck is Oct. 25. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet the students who are your brothers and sisters in Christ.
Ø Be an elementary school-based mentor through our church’s Kids Hope USA Ministry. The next training date is Sat., Oct. 3, at Coopersville Reformed Church. Cost: $10.00 includes lunch. Contact Aileen Vander Schuur as soon as possible at 204-3540 or aileenv@altelco.net. By making a difference in a young child’s life you will be changing your own.
Ø Helping in the Community: Second CRC is serving others in our community again. Want to help? Come to the church nursery and care for the younger siblings of the Allendale Christian School Preschoolers while they attend field trips with their parents! Second CRC has decided to make a difference and offer this service to the ACS Preschool parents. Please contact Jenny Walters (875-6075 or mjccwalters@charter.net) if you are available to serve. Kids Hope USA sponsored its first Prayer Walk on Sun., Sept. 13. Nine people came so two groups were formed, one walked and prayed around Oakwood Intermediated Building and the other walked and prayed around the Springview-Evergreen Building. Ø Watch for the opening of Allendale Christian School's Pumpkin Patch, starting Fri., Oct. 2 (4pm-dusk) and Sat., Oct. 3 (9am-3pm). The Pumpkin Patch is located at 5693 Lake Michigan Dr., just west of 56th Ave, in Allendale. Look for the sign! A variety of pumpkins available in every size -- orange or white and gourds, too! Come ready to pick! 100% of the proceeds benefit the school.
Ø Opportunity to serve: Tim Bosch was born with Brittle Bone Disease; he’s had over 400 broken bones and 40 major surgeries. Come to Cafe 58 in the old Zeeland Hospital Cafeteria on Wed., Sept. 30, beginning at 5 pm, to help raise funds for the Tim's Tub Project. Meet Tim and enjoy live music as you have supper; then participate in a Chinese auction with some awesome items up for grabs including an IPOD, a diamond necklace, a guided goose hunt and much more! Ø On Wed., Sept. 30, Geeta Grace Mondol, class of ’91 from Kuyper College, will be sharing her faith journey and experience in India establishing a school for autistic children. For those unfamiliar with India’s culture – autistic children are considered cursed and usually abandoned. Everyone is invited to hear her speak at 7pm in the Vos Chapel of Kuyper College. Come to a Benefit Concert on Oct. 12 at 7pm in the Allendale High School Fine Arts Center. Two of their high school choirs and the Calvin College Gospel Choir will be raising money to build a well in Africa with the help of World Hope. Suggested donation collected at the door: $3.
