Bulletin for September 21, 2008

Ø    This morning we are thankful to have Pastor Rik Stevenson lead us in worship.

Ø    Church School for 10th – 12th Graders this season will begin today Sun., Sept. 21, in the Triple Room from 11:00 a.m. to noon with Hilda Wittingen. 

Ø    Children’s Worshipis still in need of one or more teachers, especially for the Kindergarten age. This is a commitment of 2 Sundays every 6 weeks or more. Please prayerfully consider this; we would love to have you join our “family”. Any question, call Sue Brown at 892-4555 or Jerene Schierbeek at 608-5272.

Ø    The Praise Team is always looking for new members; of special need are additional guitar players and male vocalists. For more information, please contact Kim Roon (895-6536).

Ø    CADET/GEMS PARENTS- Just a reminder- To ensure the safety of the children entrusted in our care and be the best stewards of our "Safe Church " policy. We need a parent or responsible party to come to either the cadet building or the triple room to pick up your children. We also ask for your cooperation with picking your children up promptly at 8pm. Thank-you in advance for your cooperation in these area's.

Ø    Sgt. Jesse VanderSchuur and his wife have a new address.
9225 – 303 Windsor Lane NE   Olympia, WA 98516. His new Stryker unit in the Army is not expected to deploy to Iraq until at least next September. They thank you for your prayers and support.

Ø    We are still in need of a Connections Night coordinator to oversee several functions that take place on Wed. Connections Nights. Contact Arlyn Wittengen 895-6225 or Dan Ondersma 662-5031.

Ø    Faith Promise cards will be handed out this morning. Please prayerfully consider donating for God’s missions here and abroad. 

Ø    Free Community Movie Night: Facing The Giants. Sat. Sept. 27th at 7 p.m. Here at our church building! Bring your own pop – popcorn is provided. Any questions contact Steve or Sara Ambrose at 847-2984.

Ø    GEMS: Gems are selling subs, cookie dough and flowering bulbs (tulips, daffodils, etc.). There are order sheets at the information desk or call Michelle Kolean at 690-5907. Orders are due Oct 8.

Ø    Attention Parents of GEMS and Cadets: Please complete and return your child’s medical sheets this week.

Ø    GEMS recycling project: As part of some badge work and the call for GEMS worldwide to better care for God’s Creation, the GEMS will be providing a recycling service for paper products here in the church building. Some of the areas chosen for our recycle boxes will be under the family mailboxes and in the office area (copy room). If you notice a box and can use it, please do – this is only for paper products such as junk mail, magazines, catalogs and phonebooks (please no cardboard or plastics). We will be bringing the paper to the Paper Gator located at Allendale Christian School. We are also bringing back the pop can recycle canister to fund GEMS events and needs. The bin will be located around or in the triple room. We graciously accept any donations you would like to give. Thank you!!

Ø    GEMS needs: GEMS is in need of 40 empty cereal boxes (just the cardboard part) for a craft. We will collect them around the mailbox area – we will accept them until Oct. 15.

Ø    A Message to our Pastor and Congregation of 2nd Allendale CRC: I want to take this time to humbly say thanks and God bless all the people of 2nd Allendale CRC and of course humbly to Pastor Veldman for his final words for Wilma.  God Bless each and every one of our church and the community of this area. Ø    Julie Kraker has recently moved to the dementia living center on the Pine Rest campus. There she will undergo evaluation and have a care plan made that will hopefully allow her to return to the Laurels in Hudsonville.
 

Ø    We thank God for answered prayer:
       Pat Beelen underwent successful surgery this past Wednesday.  All tests thus far have shown no cancer.  
       Pat hopes to return home from the hospital early this week.
 

            Wendy Sweezer also underwent successful surgery this past week.  Surgeons are confident they "got it all." 
            A consultation with doctors this week will determine a further course of action
 

 

 

Ø    Allendale Christian School is holding their 3rd Annual KeyCard Fundraiser.  With a KeyCard, you get the best discounts everyday at many participating area merchants!  Cost is $20 and includes a Savings Guide Coupon Book.  Call Diana Overweg (895-6014) or Denise Gulker (892-4868) to place your order or if you have any questions.  KeyCards available while supplies last. 

Ø    Open House: City on a Hill (100 S. Pine Ave., Zeeland), Fri., Sept. 26, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Come check out all the different ministries on site and services that are available to individuals and families.  Ministry leaders will be on hand to answer any questions.  Free hotdogs, chips, and beverage will be served in the café and door prizes will be given away during the evening.  For more information, contact Gary Ellens at 748-6061.” 

Ø    The Lakeshore Pregnancy Center is offering a training session for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer peer counselor.  This is a tremendous volunteer opportunity, one which daily impacts the lives of women in our community.  We have centers in Allegan, Allendale, Grand Haven & Holland.  The classes will be held at our Holland center October 27-30, Nov. 1, Sat., Nov. 3 & 4.  This is a 25 hour training and all classes are required.  If interested please call Carolyn (ext. 12) or Sue (ext. 22), at 396-5840.

Ø    Allendale Christian School will be holding a Fall Mum Sale in the school’s parking lot on Tuesday, September 23 & 30 from 3pm-7:30pm.  Mums are $4 each and come in a 6 qt. (1½ gal.) pot.  Choose from a variety of colors.  Come rain or shine!

Ø    Newspaper and phonebooks will be collected at the Paper Drive trailer at Allendale Christian School on Sept. 26 & 27.  Any other recyclable paper can be brought to the Paper Gator on the south side of school at any time.

Ø    The annual Allendale Christian School auction is going a high tech this year.  You can bid on selected items online at www.allendalechristian.com  you can also come out and bid at the live auction on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 10 at ALLENDALE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL on 64th street 1 block south of M-45.  Registration begins at 5pm wit h the Silent Auction starting at 5:15pm and the verbal auction beginning at 7pm. 

Ø    The 52nd Annual Harvest Auction at Lamont Christian School will be held on Saturday, October 11. At 5:00 the doors will open, dinner will be served and silent auctions will begin. At 7:00 the live auction will begin.

Ø    CRWRC: Hurricanes Fay, Gustav, Hanna, and Ike brought battering winds and washed floodwater upon hundreds of communities damaging roads, businesses, and thousands of homes. CRWRC and its partners are responding in Haiti, to provide shelter, blankets, and food. CRWRC-Disaster Response Services has volunteers in Texas and Louisiana, beginning clean-up and helping local recovery organizations develop long-term relief plans. Ø    Nursery for infants and toddlers is available during both services. Partway into each morning service young children are invited to “Just Between” (for 2 ½ - 3 year olds) in room 122 or “Children’s Worship” (for 3-5 year olds) which meets in rooms 127 & 129.   

Ø    Sermons: Outlines, if used, are available on the carts in the back of the auditorium. Bibles are there also. Previous week’s sermons can be obtained at the Information Desk in CD format or can be accessed at the church website: www.2ndcrc-allendale.org Click Here to go to the Sermon page.

Ø    For those with special needs: The entire facility is barrier free. Large print bulletins are available at the Information Desk. The auditorium is equipped with a hearing loop. If you have a hearing aid, please set it to “T” for better hearing during the service. The best reception is at the center of the auditorium.
