Bulletin for August 31, 2008

Ø    Today we welcome Chaplain Larry Norman who will be sharing news from Forgotten Man Ministries.

Ø    For reasons outside of our control, the planned combined Labor Day service will not be held tonight. Discovering this too late to make other plans, the Worship Planning Team feels we have no alternative but to encourage the congregation to attend the church of your choice tonight.

Ø    Church School will be starting on Sept. 7. Please make sure to  register your child. Registration forms are available at the Information Desk. All students ages K-12 need to fill out a form. K-5 students will meet in the Children & Worship Room #129 after church and then be dismissed to their individual rooms. Students in grades 6-12 will have signs on their rooms. If you have any questions, contact Kristina Moelker at 895-5946.

Ø    There’ll be a brief meeting on Wed., Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. for Church School Leaders of grades K-5 to go over details and to give tips.

Ø    Calling all girls from 2nd to 6th grade:  The GEMS year will start on Sept. 10 at 6:15 pm.  We have a new time and a new location.  We will be meeting in the triple room across from the kitchen. We are excited to start the new year. See you there!

Ø    Thank you to those who volunteered to help keep the weeds out of our church landscaping.  Volunteers are Dave and Ev Bosch, Wendy Sweezer, Terri Krikke, Chuck and Lorie DeYoung, Sue Kuzee, and Doug and Jeanne Bergakker.  The grounds are looking much better and your part is appreciated. - Bob and Rose Bosch

Ø    Grand Valley has started again and Geneva Ministries is in need of cookies.  If you would be willing to bake some for the students to enjoy after their church service on Sept. 7, please call Mary Espinoza at 895-5251.

Ø    The Cadet Father/Son Campout is planned for Sept. 12 & 13. Please let Dr. Zahl (895-5035) know if you will be coming.

Ø    Attention parents of 9th - 12th graders!  There will be a short meeting after the morning service on Sept. 7 to go over new policies and give you the calendar for the year.  If you have questions or you can't make it and still would like the information, please call Scott Albers at 895-5973.

Ø    Attention Youth Group!  We have our first Deep Impact of the year next Sunday after the evening service and will end about 8:45 p.m. Come and have fun with your friends and leaders.  Questions? Call Scott Albers.

Ø    Children’s Worship for ages 3 – Kindergarten will being Sept. 14. If your child is involved, please check your box for information.

Ø    Have you ever been hungry in church?  Come and feed your hunger and help the Youth Group raise money to go on SERVE projects.  The Youth Group will be having a Burger Bash on September 17. Check your mailboxes for more information.

Ø    Special Offering: Recently, one of three of CRWM Haiti’s mission vehicles (a 1991 Toyota) blew a number of engine gaskets and was involved in an accident.  In order for CRWM’s work to continue unhindered, Zach & Sharon Segaar-King must fundraise for a heavy-duty diesel 4x4 mission vehicle during their home-service this Fall.  Due to high taxes and customs fees, it is estimated that the will need at least $30,000 for a used vehicle and $40,000 for a new vehicle.  There will be a special offering taken during the morning service on Sept. 14, 2008 to help with their need.

Ø    Do you have a desire to become a part of a group of adults (18 yrs. +) who wish to learn more about God and what He desires of you as a parent, spouse, friend or child of God? Consider joining a Discovery Group or maybe you’d like to begin a new group. Either way, contact Lorie DeYoung at 895-7649 or lady@altelco.net.

Ø    Thank you so much for your generous support of backpacks and school supplies for our Kids Hope USA children and their siblings. It is very much appreciated by these families. Thank you for helping us to reach out in love to our neighbors in need. Aileen Vander Schuur, KHUSA Director.

Ø    Reserve Tues., Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. if you are involved in a ministry at 2nd CRC involving minors and have not yet attended an Abuse Prevention meeting. In order to comply with all the requirements, staff and volunteers must have the signed information on file AND must attend this meeting. If you attended last year, you need not attend again.
