Ø    Do you feel God tugging at your heart to be a Hero? GEMS is still looking for 1 or 2 women to serve as 4th grade Counselor(s). Please call Lonna Driesenga at 892-4808 or Rachael Taylor at 895-9414 for more information. 

Ø    There will be a GEMS Counselors meeting on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. in the double room to discuss the 2008.2009 schedule.

Ø    Reminder to Kids Hope USA Mentors & Substitute Mentors: Please remember to turn in last year’s folders, the days and times that you are available to mentor this school year, and any supplies that you no longer need. Thank you! - Aileen

Ø    Do you have a desire to become a part of a group of adults (18 years and older) who wish to learn more about God and what He desires of you either as a parent or spouse, friend or child of God? Consider joining a Discovery Group here at church or maybe you’d like to begin a new group. Either way, contact Lorie DeYoung at 895-7649 or lady@altelco.net.

Ø    Information for the Sept./Oct. issue of the Second Thoughts newsletter is due today. Email items to Gailepunt@aol.com and also place a copy in the newsletter mailbox.

Ø    Thanks to those who have stepped forward to teach Church School. We still need 2 individuals or 2 teams to teach 4th/5th grades beginning Sept. 7. Please call Lorie DeYoung at 895-7649 or Kristina Moelker at 895-5946 for details.

Ø    If you are in 8th grade or older and would like to help out in the Media Center, please call Janet Feenstra at 895-6394. 

Ø    Kids Hope USA is having a backpack and school supplies drive for Kids Hope USA children this month. Check the Apple Tree in the lobby, pick an item to donate and bring it to the tree by next Sun., Aug. 24. Thank you! Any questions, call Aileen at 204-3540.

Ø    Kids Hope USA needs mentors and substitute mentors for this coming school year. New Mentor training will be held Sat., Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. You need to love children, be available for one hour each week to work with one child at Allendale Elementary Schools between 8:40 a.m. – 3:40 p.m. Mon. – Fri.; you choose the day and times you are available. Please call Aileen VanderSchuur at (616) 204-3540 as soon as possible if you are interested in this great opportunity to help children succeed. If the hours don’t work but you’d like to be a mentor, still contact Aileen and something might be able to be worked out.

Ø    Reserve Tues., Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. if you are involved in a ministry at 2nd CRC involving minors and have not yet attended an Abuse Prevention meeting. In order to comply with all the requirements, staff and volunteers must have the signed information on file AND must attend this meeting. If you attended last year, you need not attend again.

On Aug. 31, Labor Day weekend, we will join with First CRC for an evening worship service in their church.

Ø       The 2008 Sea to Sea Bike Tour has arrived in Grand Rapids. Come celebrate all that God has been doing through the tour to end the cycle of poverty. Today at Fifth Third Ballpark activities begin at 2 p.m., with a worship service at 3 p.m. If you didn’t order tickets, there are some left. Stop by the box office window at the park to obtain tickets.

Ø       Christian Reformed Home Missions has announced the appointment of Ben Vandezande as interim director, effective October 1. We praise God for this answer to prayer! Vandezande will replace John Rozeboom, who is retiring after leading Home Missions for 22 years. Please join us in asking the Lord to be with Ben as he prepares to take on the task of leading the agency for the next two years.

Ø       Pray for Rev. Paul Mpindi, French ministry leader, as he leads pastor training events in Benin and Congo this month. More than 2000 pastors and church leaders are expected to attend. Pray that the follow-up training they receive will help them disciple the thousands of listeners who are coming to Christ through the ministry of Back to God Ministries International.

Ministry at a race track? It’s happening, and you are invited to see it first-hand. The Kids Corner race car and family ministry tent will be at the Berlin Raceway in Marne on Sept. 13. Ø    Nursery for infants and toddlers is available during both services. Partway into each morning service young children are invited to “Just Between” (for 2 ½ - 3 year olds) in room 122 or “Children’s Worship” (for 3-5 year olds) which meets in rooms 127 & 129.   

Ø    Sermons: Outlines, if used, are available on the carts in the back of the auditorium. Bibles are there also. Previous week’s sermons can be obtained at the Information Desk in CD format or can be accessed at the church website: www.2ndcrc-allendale.org Click Here to go to the Sermon page.

Ø    For those with special needs: The entire facility is barrier free. Large print bulletins are available at the Information Desk. The auditorium is equipped with a hearing loop.
