Bulletin for August 10, 2008 |

Ø 100th Anniversary: Classis Zeeland was organized 100 years ago on August 11, 1908. Today we give thanks to the Lord of the Church for His faithfulness to each of our churches—and to the ministries of Classis—on the occasion of this special milestone. Classis itself will be taking note of its anniversary at its fall meeting in a few weeks on September 17.
Ø All women interested in joining together in a time of prayer are invited to meet at church this Wed., the 13th, at 7 p.m.
Ø Do you have a desire to become a part of a group of adults (18 years and older) who wish to learn more about God and what He desires of you either as a parent or spouse, friend or child of God? Consider joining a Discovery Group here at Second CRC. Or, maybe you would like to begin a new group. Either way, contact Lorie DeYoung at 895-7649 or lady@altelco.net.
Ø The church office will be closed the week of Aug. 17. Items for the Aug. 24 bulletin will be due 9 a.m. on Aug. 18. Thank you!
Ø Information for the Sept./Oct. issue of the Second Thoughts newsletter is due next Sunday. Email items to Gailepunt@aol.com and also place a copy in the newsletter mailbox (bottom row, 2nd from the left). Use the newsletter to share ministry news, notes of praise and petition, decisions that impact the church, etc.
Ø The GEMS ministry still needs 1 or 2 new counselors this fall. Love girls in 2nd – 6th grades and want to be used by God to impact young lives? Please call Lonna Driesenga at 892-4808 or Rachael Taylor at 895-9414 for more information.
Ø Church School will begin Sept. 7. Four more teachers are needed! Please pray about this urgent need. Teach a class alone or as a team. Call Lorie DeYoung, Head of Discipleship Ministries at 895-7649 or Kristina Moelker, Church School Director at 895-5946.
Ø Calling all Christians who would like to publicly proclaim Jesus as their Savior. Faith Friends begins Mon., Sept. 8, and we'd like to match you with a mentor. Just fill out the forms in the Faith Friends mailbox and return as soon as possible. Contact Lorie DeYoung with any questions or concerns. Remember, there is an alternative plan for those who would rather go that direction to Profession of Faith.
Ø Kids Hope USA is having a backpack and school supplies drive for Kids Hope USA children this month. Check the Apple Tree in the lobby, pick an item to donate and bring it to the tree by Sun., Aug. 24. Thank you! Any questions, call Aileen at 204-3540.
Ø Kids Hope USA needs mentors and substitute mentors for this coming school year. New Mentor training will be held Sat., Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. You need to love children, be available for one hour each week to work with one child at Allendale Elementary Schools between 8:40 a.m. – 3:40 p.m. Mon. – Fri.; you choose the day and times you are available. Please call Aileen VanderSchuur at (616) 204-3540 as soon as possible if you are interested in this great opportunity to help children succeed. If the hours don’t work but you’d like to be a mentor, still contact Aileen and something might be able to be worked out.
Ø If you are in 8th grade or older and would like to help out in the Media Center, please call Janet Feenstra at 895-6394.
Reserve Tues., Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. if you are involved in a ministry at 2nd CRC involving minors and have not yet attended an Abuse Prevention meeting.
