Bulletin for May 18, 2008

Ø    This evening, the Men of Grace choral group will share the gift of song during the evening service. Welcome! Invite others to worship.

Ø    Next Sunday evening plan to worship at North Blendon CRC in a combined service at 6:30 p.m. with other area churches. Pastor Tim Howerzyl will be preaching and special music will be provided by Andy Overweg.

Ø    Congregational Meeting results: The restated Articles of Incorporation for Second CRC and the proposed budget for 2008-2009 were adopted. New Elders will be Ron Borst, John Knoppers, Arlyn Smits, and Arlyn Wittingen. New Deacons will be Scott Albers, Matthew Camp, Brad Ensing, and Brian Roon. The newly selected Council members will be installed during the morning service on June 1.

Ø    A Nursery Coordinator is needed. Tasks: making the nursery schedule, coordinating volunteers, and making sure the necessary supplies are there. If you are interested in serving in this ministry, feel God nudging you to help, or would like more information, please call Janet Feenstra at 895-6394.

Ø    Help is also needed to serve as follows: Sunday School Superintendent (1 person or team of 2), Missions Committee (2 people), Worship Planning Team (2-3 people), Media Center Director (1 person). To find out more, contact John Worst (895-5117) or Pastor Harold.            

Ø    Vacation Bible School is planned for July 28 – Aug. 1 BUT people to lead Crafts, Games, Drama and Snacks are urgently needed. The curriculum spells each of these out in great detail down to the supplies needed and special hints. Without these individuals and teams, VBS cannot happen.  Please contact Sarah Gemmen at 892-6009 or sgemmen@charter.net if you are willing to help.

Ø    Save the evening of Wed., July 16 for a Church Family Picnic. More details will be shared later.  

Ø    Church families who are in need of Christian Education tuition assistance for the 2008/09 school year can apply by getting a form from Jim Krikke (our church mailbox) and returning it back to him by May 25 and no later! or call Jim at 895-5195.

Ø    Have you asked Jesus into your heart? Are you ready to share your love with Him publicly? Sign up for Faith Friends: Sept. 8, 15, 22, 29; Oct 13, and 20 and Profession of Faith on Oct. 26, 2008.  Papers are in the Faith Friends mailbox. The sooner you fill them out, the sooner we can connect you with a mentor. Or would you like to know about an alternative route to public profession? Ask Carol Scholten (895-7497) Elizabeth VanderPloeg (896-7697) or Lorie DeYoung (895-7649).  

Ø    Save your pop cans for the GEMS’ Pop Can Fund Drive! Funds will go towards expenses for leaders attending the GEMS Leadership Conference in North Carolina in July. Please put your pop cans in the bin in the lobby or if you would like to have them picked up from your house, call Rachael Taylor at 895-9414. Leaders planning to attend are Lonna Driesenga, Sara Ambrose, Rachael Taylor, and Deb Zeinstra. 

Ø    GEMS, pick up a copy of the summer Shine magazine at the Information Desk.

Ø    You are invited to an open house at Allendale Christian School in honor of Ruth Freerksen’s retirement on Thurs., May 29, from 6:30-7:30 P.M. Ruth has taught at Allendale Christian for 19 years in both third and first grades. What a blessing she has been to so many of our children and parents alike. It has been Ruth’s desire to show God’s love for each of the children she has taught, and she has been used mightily by our creator and King. Please join us for cake and coffee in the school rotunda and give your congratulations to Ruth.

Ø    St. John Lutheran Church (48th Ave. and Fillmore St.) will conduct a 6-week communication workshop “Siblings Without Rivalry”.  Learn proven skills to help children get along. Registration is required.  Cost for the class and materials: $35.00. Dates: June 3 - July 8, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Seats are still available on the bus trip organized by St. John Lutheran to Shipshewana on June 11, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.   Cost: $25. Ø    CRWRC began emergency relief for Cyclone Nargis survivors on May 9. Food, shelter, water purification kits, mosquito nets, and medical care are being distributed in the delta region of Burma/Myanmar. CRWRC’s in country partner buys supplies locally avoiding the snags of country to country, and country to agency relief assistance. People are getting help from CRWRC. Ø    Prayer requests: 1) Please pray for the 23 Christian Reformed Home Missions-supported campus ministers, that they may continue to connect with young people on campuses through the summer. Pray that God will give campus ministers guidance as they look for new ways to reach youth.  2) Pray for a new Back to God Hour English language ministry designed to reach under-churched adults. Walk the Way is a radio and internet program--www.walktheway.net--that challenges listeners to put faith into action. Pray that many will be drawn back into a vital relationship with Jesus Christ and his church.

Ø    The Calvinist Cadet Corps is hosting its 6th Annual Fishing Tournament on Sat., June 7, at Gun Lake State Park to raise funds for the Cadet ministry. Registration forms are available at the kiosk in the lobby.

Make a life-saving difference and join others for family fun and a pledge walk. Enjoy refreshments, children’s games and prizes at Lakeshore Pregnancy Center’s 14th annual LifeWalk on Sat., June 14. This event helps the ministry provide free pregnancy tests, baby items, peer counseling, abstinence education and life skills classes. For details, call Kari Wiersema at 895-1893.

Ø    Nursery for infants and toddlers is available during both services. Partway into each morning service young children are invited to “Just Between” (for 2 ½ - 3 year olds) in room 122 or “Children’s Worship” (for 3-5 year olds) which meets in rooms 127 & 129.   

Ø    Sermons: Outlines, if used, are available on the carts in the back of the auditorium. Bibles are there also. Previous week’s sermons can be obtained at the Information Desk in CD format or can be accessed at the church website: www.2ndcrc-allendale.org Click Here to go to the Sermon page.

Ø    For those with special needs: The entire facility is barrier free. Large print bulletins are available at the Information Desk. The auditorium is equipped with a hearing loop. If you have a hearing aid, please set it to “T” for better hearing during the service. The best reception is at the center of the auditorium.
